Thrust Chambers

Mach Diamond designs and fabricates thrust chambers.

The thrust chamber is a single-piece design comprised of two functional elements: the combustion chamber and the expansion nozzle, separated by an integral “throat”. The throat is the narrowest point in the internal flow path. The thrust chamber is machined from a billet of C103 niobium alloy, which consists of 89% niobium, 10% hafnium and 1% titanium.

The thrust chamber may be bolted or welded to the valve body. Some amount of weight savings is realized with the welded design.

Niobium thrust chambers are usually coated with disilicide coating to prevent oxidation.
